Introduction to Print
New to print, or working alongside it? This online course gives you a clear, practical grounding in how printed products are made, from the first design to the finished job.
Learn at your own pace, on any device, in about 4 hours. You'll come away able to talk confidently with printers, designers and customers, and understand what happens to a job at every stage.
You will learn to:
- explain the size and value of the UK print industry
- follow a job through the workflow, from design and pre-press to press and finishing
- tell the six main printing processes apart and know what each is used for
- understand colour in print, including CMYK, ICC profiles and Pantone
- recognise the main finishing and converting techniques
- choose the right paper and board, and use paper sizes and terminology correctly
Who it's for
New starters in print and packaging, apprentices, and anyone in sales, customer service, marketing, design or procurement who works with printed products. No previous experience is needed.
